What We Believe

"What comes into our minds when we think about God is the most important thing about us." - A.W. Tozer

Core Beliefs

The following are the core beliefs of Town Creek Baptist Church | Leland, NC based on the foundational truths taught in the Bible. All of our teaching and ministry is rooted in and flows out of these biblical doctrines.

The Scriptures

We believe that the Holy Bible was written by men divinely inspired, and is a perfect treasure of heavenly instruction; that it has God for its author, salvation for its end, and truth without any mixture of error for its matter; that it reveals the principles by which God will judge us; and therefore is, and shall remain to the end of the work, the true center of Christian union, and the supreme standard by which all human conduct, creeds and opinions shall be tried.  We believe that the Bible is the final authority in all matters relating to faith and practice.

The True God

We believe in one God, the Father, the Son, the Holy Spirit --- three persons, yet but one God, whose name is Jehovah.

The Deity of Christ

We believe in the deity and the humanity of Jesus Christ, who is none other than God the Son manifest in the flesh, and in whom all the fullness of the Godhead dwells forever.

The Way of Salvation

We believe that the salvation of sinners is wholly by grace; through the mediatorial offices of the Son of God; who by the appointment of the Father, freely took upon Him our nature, yet without sin; honored the divine law by Hi personal obedience, and by His death made full atonement for our sins; that having risen from the dead, he is now enthroned in heaven, and uniting in His wonderful person the tenderest sympathies with  divine perfections; He is in every way qualified to be a suitable, a compassionate, and an all-sufficient Saviour.

The Free Gift of Salvation

We believe that the blessings of salvation are made free to all by the gospel; that it is the immediate duty of all to accept them by a cordial, penitent and obedient faith; and that nothing prevents the salvation of the greatest sinner on earth, but his own inherent depravity and voluntary rejection of the gospel; which rejection involves him in an aggravated condemnation.

Repentance and Faith

We believe that repentance and faith are sacred duties, and also inseparable graces, wrought in our souls by the regenerating Spirit of God; whereby being deeply convinced of our guilt, anger, and helplessness, and of the way of salvation by Christ, we turn to God with unfeigned contrition, confession, and supplication for mercy; at the same time heartily receiving the Lord Jesus Christ as our Prophet, Priest, and King, and relying upon Him alone as the only and all-sufficient Saviour.

The Head of the Church

We believe that Jesus Christ is the one and only Head of the Church; that all believers are equally priests unto God; that ordination, while it recognizes position, bestows no power; that the local church is independent and sovereign.

The Basis for Church Membership

We believe in regeneration or “ye must be born again” as the only basis for church membership.

Baptism

We believe that Christian baptism is the immersion in water of a believer, into the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit; to show forth in a solemn and beautiful symbol our faith in the crucified, buried, and risen Saviour, with its affect, in our death to sin and resurrection to a new life; that it is a prerequisite to membership in this church.

The Lord's Supper

We believe that the Lord’s Supper is a symbolic representation of the broken body and shed blood of our Saviour Jesus Christ given to us as the new covenant.  We further believer that all baptized believers are entitled to participate in the observance of this ordinance.

The Separation of Church and State

We believe in the separation of Church and State, and stand for the largest measure of civil and religious liberty.

The Lord's Day

We believe that the first day of the week is the Lord’s Day.  It is a Christian institution for regular observance.  It commemorates the resurrection of Christ from the dead and should be employed in exercises of worship and spiritual devotion, both public and private, and by refraining from worldly amusements, and resting from secular employments, work of necessity and mercy only being excepted.

Sanctification

We believe that sanctification is the process by which, according to the will of God, we are made partakers of His Holiness; that it is a progressive work; that it is begun in regeneration; and that it is carried on in the hearts of believers by the presence and power of the Holy Spirit, the Healer and Comforter, in the continual use of appointed means --- especially the work of God, self-examination, self-denial, watchfulness, prayer, and unselfish services and giving.

Stewardship

We believe that God, the Creator and Owner of all things and persons, has entrusted to the Christian his life, time, talents, influence, money, goods, and all things whatsoever he possesses; that as steward of these possessions he is to administer them under the will of God for the purpose of Jesus Christ; that in definite expression of this stewardship he is to contribute systematically and proportionately of his means to the support of his church and of the missionary and benevolent enterprises of Christ’s Kingdom.

The Perseverance of the Saints

We believe that God, the Creator and Owner of all things and persons, has entrusted to the Christian his life, time, talents, influence, money, goods, and all things whatsoever he possesses; that as steward of these possessions he is to administer them under the will of God for the purpose of Jesus Christ; that in definite expression of this stewardship he is to contribute systematically and proportionately of his means to the support of his church and of the missionary and benevolent enterprises of Christ’s Kingdom.

Immortality

We believe in unbroken conscious existence after death determined by life before death; in the personal second coming of Christ to judge the world; in the resurrection of the body which for those who die in the Lord shall be like Christ’s glorious body; in the eternal happiness of the saved and the eternal sorrow and suffering of the lost.
